Are you thinking of taking the IELTS Exam? What is your band score? IELTS Band scores range from 0 to 9.
The exam is separated into Speaking, Reading Writing and Listening. You are scored between 0 and 9 on each skill.
This is then added together to get your overall band score.
IELTS Speaking Test
The IELTS speaking test last for 14 to 16 minutes during which time you are asked to speak through three sections.
Section 1: This is an informal Q & A session where you are asked about general topics that are familiar to you.
Section 2: This section requires you to speak for two minutes about a topic usually related to the questions in the first section.
Section 3: This section requires you to answer 3 to 4 questions that ask you to relay further information about your topic in section two.
IELTS Writing Test
The IELTS writing test has two sections. You have one hour to complete both sections.
Section 1: This section is separated in to either the Academic test or the General test. The Academic test will show you a diagram, graph or chart that contains information. You are required to provide a detailed account of the information before you. The general test asks for an email, letter, notice or memorandum addressing a particular topic.
Each essay has to be 150 words long.
Section 2: This section is the same for both the Academic and the General Test. It comprises of writing an essay of 250 words that centers around your agreeance or disagreeance with a perticular statement.
What is important is that you know how to correctly formulate an essay and prepare it in a formal format.
IELTS Reading Test
The IELTS reading test is conducted and completed in 60 minutes.
There are approximately three texts to read, then answer forty questions answered. Each section of questions apply to a different section of the text and each set of questions is formatted differently to check not only your understanding of the text but also checking your understanding of the questions. Question types included are multi-choice, form-fill, gap-fill and short answer, as well as nine other varieties of questions.
It is not only important to be able to skim and scan, you must also understand synonyms and how they may also appear in the text.
Being able to read properly is paramount to improving your score in this section of testing.
IELTS Listening Test
The IELTS listening test is conducted and completed in 60 minutes.
It comprises of four sections of dialogue.
The dialogue can be one, two or three speakers, and ranges from an informal discussion to a formal lecture, from a person asking for directions or instructions to a detailed description about guidelines or discoveries, and this slowly becomes harder as you progress through the questions and answers.
There are forty questions and answers, it is imperative that you can listen for the keywords and/or synonyms used whilst filling in the answer sheet simultaneously.
